Scarves can be a simple, yet complicated accessory.  I mean think about it… it’s just a rectangle of fabric!  However, I hear guys all the time that got a scarf as a gift (and that they like) but aren’t sure how to tie it.  Today, we’re going to look at how to wear a scarf.

Here are your best bets for draping a scarf around your neck:

  • First, it’s certainly not like a necktie.  However, I have heard rumors of men wearing them like one.  It’s not all that terrible but unless it’s clear you’re a style superstar, you’ll just might look like you are clueless… or start a new trend.

neck tie

  • Up next, a simple, loose knot.  It looks handsomely nonchalant and is very easy to do.

  • The third look is another option you might like.  To achieve this, thrown both ends of the scarf over your shoulders and bring the ends around on the opposite side .

Around and over

  • This next one is my personal favorite.  To get this look, fold the scarf in half, wrap it around your neck and take the ends of the scarf and pull them through the loop that is now at the other end of the scarf.

Through

  • And lastly, the most classic.  I think of old Hollywood when I see this.  All you do is toss one end over your shoulder and voila!

Over the shoulder

Undershirts should be like your underwear: not showing!

Am I suggesting to “go commando?”  If you prefer to, but not necessarily…

Many years ago, a man who required an undershirt worn underneath his dress shirt did so because the fabric of the button-up he wore was too harsh to lay against his skin comfortably.  Textile technology has come a long way though, and now, just about every dress shirt you buy can be wore sans undershirt if you so choose.  However, most men wear undershirts because it prevents the dreaded underarm-sweat-look.

The best remedy is to wear a deep cut v- neck t-shirt.

Yes, without a shirt overtop, you may be mistaken for a gigolo.  But hey, remember what we said about undershirts?  They’re not showing.

As for color, the best is one that matches the darkness of your skin color.  Just because you’re Caucasian doesn’t mean this color is white.  A safe bet for everyone is grey.

“Why,” you ask?  Well, the savviest females know that if they wear white pants and white underware, there is a white underware line.  Wearing a nude color underneath solves this problem.

The same can be said for a white vs. grey undershirt.  Try out American Apparel’s Tri-Blend Short Sleeve Deep V-Neck.  With a healthy amount of rayon and polyester in this tee, it is softer and wicks moisture away much, much better than a 100% cotton tee.

Nothing sucks more than pit stains on a classy shirt.  Now that we’ve taught you a big style secret, do us and yourself a favor, and pick up a new Arbitrage button-up…  like this one.  You can thank us later.

Tuesday’s Tips: Go French

  • Share

French Blue, that is.

Men, you can’t go wrong with a French blue shirt.

Looks good with a suit, looks good with jeans, flatters every skin tone(that I can think of, anyway), and is as season-less as you get without just going the white-shirt-route.

So, today’s tip is a quick and easy one to remember: When in doubt, French it.
