Halo Bicycle Lock
The lock that will send you a message if someone is trying to steal your wheels!
The circular bicycle lock is equipped with an Eye- Fi card that will send you an alert if someone is trying to break it. The lock will either send you a text message or give you a phone call. This requires that it is in a place where Wi-Fi access is available, which is why it has not hit the market yet. However, as the popularity of Wi-Fi increases we can expect to see this gadget soon!

5 Tips to Reduce your energy Bill
Does this summer heat wave have your energy bill soaring through the roof? Here are some easy tips to reduce your energy bill and help the well being of the environment:
1) Use energy at night.
Peak energy usage is between 4-6PM. Running dishwashers and clothes washers/dryers later at night will reduce strain on the power grid and keep the house cooler in summer.
2) Ducts, Vents, & Openings
Check your ducts for air leaks. Use heat approved tapes rather than cloth-backed duct tape to seal your ducts. Make sure radiators, baseboard heaters, warm-air registers, and A/C vents aren’t blocked by furniture or curtains.
Keep the dampers on your fireplace closed when you are not using it.
3) Clothes Dryer
To make most efficient use of your dryer, dry lighter clothing in separate loads from towels and other heavy materials. Dry loads back-to-back if possible, but remember to clean the lint screen between each load. It helps move moisture away from clothes faster. Don’t over dry your clothing.
4) Outlet drain
When plugged into a wall outlet, electronic and other home office equipment can continue to consume electricity after it is turned off. Use power strips. Shutting off power at a power strip will eliminate this standby electricity consumption.
5)Dishwasher
Use the air-dry setting on your dishwasher. Using the heat-dry setting can also heat the kitchen, causing the air conditioner to run more.
Don’t use the “rinse hold” option on your dishwasher. It uses 3 to 7 gallons of hot water each time you use it.

I have squeaky shoes. They are very well-made, expensive shoes. What can I do?
Your shoes probably squeak because of a gap that has developed between the sole and the insole. A good shoemaker should be able to eliminate the squeak with some glue, if you really want to get rid of it, but consider that for many years, as late as the early twentieth century, squeaky shoes were quite fashionable and shoemakers inserted padding under the arch of the foot for the express purpose of noise-making.
This same principle is often used today in kiddie shoes so parents will be able to better track their toddlers by ear. In today’s world, adults often desire stealth, especially executives who’d like to catch everyone napping, and so a signature squeak is no longer chic. Too bad.

This looks like it belongs in the home of someone that lives on a spaceship… it’s a fan with no blades! Dyson, the same company know for their vacuums, has developed this bladeless fan. Not only is it totally safe for children, the air flow it delivers is smooth instead of the choppy waves of air created by a conventional fan.
I’ll be honest, I’ve never really noticed the choppy airflow, called buffeting, a standard fan puts out until I watched the video explaining it. Then all last nigh, the little fan in my room irritated the heck out of me! It was like being used to drinking out of a garden hose and finding out about Evian water. A good Bloody Mary has a spicy kick. Haru’s new Kajida Bloody Mary has a spicy punch in the face. They’re billing their new libation as the spiciest cocktail in town – think you’re up for that challenge?
To fire things up, they’ve used wasabi and jalapenos along with the more typical black pepper. Kajida actually means “fire” in Japanese, so you know what you’re getting yourself into.
If you want to test your spicy mettle, the drink is offered at all of Haru’s locations. It’s usually $12 ($13 at the Park Avenue spot) and $7 during Haru’s happy hour.
Check out the recipe, and get ready to bring on the heat:
Kajida ‘Fire’ Bloody Mary Ingredients:
1.5 oz Svedka Vodka
5.5 oz Tomato Juice
1.0 oz Teaspoon Celery Salt
1.0 oz Teaspoon ‘Chiyoda’ shichimi togarashi
0.5 oz Teaspoon Black Pepper
0.2 oz Wasabi
0.1 oz Olive Juice
0.2 oz Shredded Cucumber
0.2 oz Ginger
0.2 oz Fresh Jalapenos
0.1 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
0.1 oz Soy Sauce
Directions: Muddle fresh ginger, jalapeños, and wasabi with a dash of Svedka (to dissolve the wasabi). Pour over ice, Svedka and tomato juice; add olive juice, celery salt, schichimi powder, and black pepper. Shake thoroughly. Pour all contents into Pilsner glass.
GARNISH: Shredded cucumber, 2 sliced jalapeños, and a dash of pepper to the top. Glass is rimmed with celery salt.
